Tenure Track Assistant / Associate Professor in Landscape Biogeochemistry
The Danish Pioneer Center for Landscape Research in Sustainable Agricultural Futures, Land-CRAFT, based at the Department of Agroecology, Aarhus University, Denmark, is looking for a researcher with proficiency in environmental impact modelling, GHG inventories, MRV systems for agricultural sources, and land management scenarios. The position is offered as either a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on the qualification of the applicant. The position is a full-time position and starts 1 February 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Food security, climate change and loss of biodiversity represent three of today’s major societal challenges. Finding solutions requires studies that extend across multiple spatial and temporal scales. Land-CRAFT (https://land-craft.dk/), established in 2022, brings together experts on climate impact research and landscape analyses with backgrounds in biogeochemistry, agronomy, biology, geography, and social sciences from Aarhus and Copenhagen Universities, as well as our international partners: Colorado State University/NREL and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology/IMK-IFU. Digital technologies, including biogeochemical modelling and remote sensing, as well as interactions with stakeholders, are key components of Land-CRAFT.
The ideal candidate has experience in the use and application of biogeochemical models at large scales and a vision of how the increasing availability of Earth Observation information can be used to initialize, drive or complement routines in biogeochemical models and to calculate field to regional to global inventories of soil GHG fluxes or fluxes of other environmentally relevant substances. The candidate will also work on developing MRV frameworks and future sustainable agricultural production pathways under climate change conditions.

Tenure track positions are usually aimed at candidates who have not previously held an assistant professor position.

Assessment of your qualifications are based on research output, including high-level peer-reviewed publications, international research collaboration and long-term research stay(s) at another internationally acknowledged university or research institution, documented ability to attract external funding, demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching and supervision of students, good communication skills and ability to collaborate and build relationships. Your profile
We are searching for a highly motivated candidate who has
- A PhD in agronomy, biogeochemistry, environmental sciences or environmental engineering/ sensor techniques including remote sensing, or similar,
- 5+ years following PhD,
- Proficient programming skills, with a background in using and processing complex land use and land management data,
- Extensive background in agricultural system management and biogeochemical modelling,
- Documented experience in scientific writing with several papers in high-quality journals
- Established international research collaborations
- Proficiency in working collaboratively and establishing meaningful professional relationships.
- Ability to carry out independent, systematic, well-organized research work, as well as work as part of an interdisciplinary team,
- Experienced in executing projects effectively,
- Willingness to contribute to developing and follow strategies for the team and within the perspective of the larger research environment,
- Proficient communication abilities in the English language.
