Student mentors for incoming international master's students at the Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering

The Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering (BCE) is looking for two dedicated mentors to help incoming international students settle into our programmes.Expected start date
The position starts on 15 May 2026. It is an hourly paid position, and working hours will vary throughout the year.
Most working hours will be concentrated at the beginning of, and throughout, the autumn semester 2026, particularly from late August onwards (approximately 5–10 hours per month).
From the start date until the beginning of the semester, there will be only a limited number of tasks, including the visit for incoming EU Master’s applicants. You should therefore expect fewer hours during this period (approximately 1–5 hours per month). However, you are expected to be available should any needs arise.Most working hours will be concentrated at the beginning of, and throughout, the autumn semester 2026, particularly from late August onwards (approximately 5–10 hours per month).
Job description
From the moment international students arrive, and until they have completed their first exams, you will support their student journey. You will play an important role in creating a safe, smooth, and positive start to their studies. You will be their natural point of contact, helping them settle in—both socially and academically.
As a mentor, you will form a mentor pair, sharing responsibility for the international students. Together with your co-mentor, you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the mentor programme so it aligns with your strengths and the needs of your group. Your work will be supported by the BCE Secretariat, ensuring the best possible structure and content.
The focus is on building a strong collaboration between mentors and mentees, and the themes for your meetings will largely depend on what you and your mentees find meaningful and relevant.
Your tasks as a mentor include:
- Acting as a contact and support person for incoming international Master’s students during their first semester, both academically and socially, including being available for practical assistance upon their arrival.
- Organising and leading mentor meetings every second or third week, focusing on strengthening their social community and study life.
- Planning and facilitating the Master’s Introduction Day (Friday, 21 August) in collaboration with the Secretariat and the student counsellors.
- Conducting the visit for incoming international EU students during daytime on 21–22 May.
- Participating in information sessions for international students about our Master’s programmes (1–3 per semester).
Your profile
- Are a master’s student in Biotechnology and Chemical Engineering and have good knowledge of the study environment and opportunities at Aarhus University
- Are responsible, trustworthy, and welcoming
- Can work independently as well as in teams, since involving relevant resources at Aarhus University may be necessary
- Have experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds (an advantage)
- Have experience with leadership or facilitating meetings (an advantage)
- Are motivated to contribute with your ideas
