The Department of Clinical Medicine, Center of Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN) at the Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, Denmark invites applications for a position of Postdoctoral Scientist in the field of MEG and Cognitive Neuroscience, starting September 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time post for 2 years, with a possibility of extension/tenure after the initial period for a good candidate.

The Center is seeking to make a new appointment to expand its MEG, EEG and TMS research and to support the operations of its state-of-the-art neuroimaging infrastructure. The facility is equipped with a MEGIN (former Elekta Neuromag) Triux 306-channel MEG system (combined with 124 channels EEG), a range of EEG systems, a navigated TMS as well as an OPM MEG setup (presently being established). Computer-controlled visual, auditory, olfactory and somatosensory stimulation as well as behavioural response monitoring and eye-tracking systems are available. The research-dedicated infrastructure also includes 3T MR scanners (which may be utilized for acquiring structural images for MEG/EEG analyses and TMS navigation), a data storage database and a computing cluster.

CFIN is an international multidisciplinary research centre based at Aarhus University’s Department of Clinical Medicine, and is a major player in neuroscience research in Denmark. Our research groups are supported by state-of-the-art cognitive neuroscience facilities and have well-established clinical and other collaborations. Access to clinical population is available on-site at the Aarhus University Hospital.

Department of Clinical Medicine 

As a postdoc at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 670 academic employees, 500 PhD students and 160 technical/administrative employees who are cooperating across disciplines. About the research project

The postholder’s research will be centred (1) on carrying out specific scientific research in collaboration with line manager and other team members, (2) on using MEG/EEG and other neuroimaging methods for research the neural activity underlying cognitive processes in the human brain (with a particular focus on speech and language processing), and (3) on liaising with other lab users and taking part in EEG/MEG/TMS support and development at CFIN. Previous experience in using MEG and/or EEG is essential; TMS and (f)MRI expertise will be an added advantage. Ideal candidates will have experience both in neuroimaging and in language research.

Your job responsibilities

The postdoc position at such multidisciplinary international research centre as CFIN requires a broad range of skills and a flexible mindset. The tasks and responsibilities range from creating experimental paradigms and data acquisition and analysis, requiring a solid theoretical and practical background in relevant fields, to more overarching areas such as research laboratory coordination, interaction with multiple lab users, resolving technical issues, dealing with vendors and suppliers, etc. The vibrant and multidisciplinary environment at CFIN offers strong motivation for a person who thrives in a position that is ever changing, according to the developments in the field and the requirements of the research projects underway. The ability to work independently while remaining a team player, dedicated to the success of the Center as a whole, is thus critical for the successful candidate.

You will report to the Head of MEG/EEG/TMS facility.

Your competences

You have academic qualifications at PhD level. Eligible candidates should hold a PhD or similar degree in a relevant discipline, including (but not limited to) neuroscience, psychology, biomedical engineering, neuroinformatics, cognitive science or psycho-/neur0linguistics. You have a proven record of neuroimaging experimentation (particularly using MEG/EEG) and of quality scientific publishing, commensurate with your career stage.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. Knowledge of Danish is not required but will benefit the postholder in fulfilling their duties.

Terms of employment

• Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
• Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
• The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
• Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
• The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
