This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position for 2 years, starting on 1 September 2026, with the possibility of a 1-year extension, subject to funding and scientific progress.
 

Job description

The successful candidate will join the Lyons Lab and work on an externally funded research project focused on regulatory mechanisms governing membrane-associated transport processes and their role in intracellular trafficking.

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to an interdisciplinary research programme combining cell biology, biochemistry, and protein science, with primary tasks including:

• Cell-based assays to analyse membrane trafficking and transporter regulation
• Advanced fluorescence microscopy and quantitative imaging
• Molecular biology and biochemical approaches to study membrane-associated proteins
• Integration of cellular data with biochemical and structural insights
• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Active participation in a collaborative and international research environment

Depending on background and interest, the candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to structure-based studies, including cryo-electron microscopy, with training provided where relevant.
 

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD degree (or be close to completion) in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field.
Essential qualifications:

• Strong background in cell biology, membrane trafficking, or intracellular transport
• Experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based functional assays
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Desirable qualifications:

• Experience with quantitative fluorescence microscopy or live-cell imaging
• Experience with membrane proteins or protein biochemistry
• Interest in integrating cellular approaches with biophysical or structural methods
• Prior experience with cryo-EM is not required, but considered an advantage

Who we are

The Lyons Lab is part of the Section of Protein Science at Aarhus University and is jointly affiliated with iNANO and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. The lab investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms of transmembrane transport processes, with a particular focus on lipid transport systems.
The group has access to facilities for mammalian protein production, purification, biochemical and biophysical characterization, as well as state-of-the-art cryo-EM infrastructure at the iNANO Cryo-EM Facility and BioImaging facilities.

Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
