Assistant Professor of metabolism, vascular biology and inflammation
The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of metabolism, cardiovascular disease and inflammation as per June 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 2-year full-time position.

As an Assistant Professor in our group, you will investigate newly identified signaling pathways that are key to endothelial cell activation and regulation during inflammation. Your research will involve detailed characterization studies, utilizing both in vivo and in vitro murine models and patient samples. You will employ cutting-edge techniques to mimic vascular activation and inflammation, leveraging models of diet-induced obesity and tumor development to explore these processes.
You will join a multidisciplinary environment at the intersection of academia and clinical research, with access to state-of-the-art technologies such as light-sheet microscopy, advanced flow cytometry, and other advanced OMICs approaches (Chromium, Visium, CyTOF, etc.). Additionally, you will benefit from our team's expertise in animal surgery and clinical sample processing. We are looking for candidates with exceptional experimental skills, a passion for discovery, and the ambition to push the frontiers of scientific research. Your main tasks will consist of:

You hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular medicine/biology, biochemistry, molecular pharmacology or closely related disciplines and have a minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral working experience.
You have thorough understanding of metabolism, vascular biology, inflammation and tumor biology.
You have extensive practical experience with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g. protein and gene expression analysis, immune- and cell-based assays) as well as within the following fields: Primary cell handling (e.g. endothelial and immune cells), gene editing, mouse models (e.g. tumor, inflammation and angiogenesis models including standard dissection and surgery) and metabolic analysis.
In order to be assessed as qualified for an Assistant Professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.

About the research project
The Angiogenesis and Inflammation group, led by Associate Professor Joanna Kalucka (https://biomed.au.dk/kalucka-lab), is seeking exceptional researchers at the Assistant Professor level to join our dynamic and diverse international team. Your job responsibilities
As Assistant Professor in the Kalucka Lab at the Department of Biomedicine your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor’s and master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
- Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
- Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
- Responsible for educational meetings within the Kalucka Lab, e.g. journal clubs and group meetings.
Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator, and you have some degree of experience with supervision and teaching at bachelor’s and master’s degree level. We draw attention to completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar, as well as experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations.As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

- Appointment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
- Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
- The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
- Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
- The yearly base salary for a fulltime assistant professor is between DKK 484.214,84 and DKK 538.720,20 depending on the years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
