2 Postdoctoral positions in Intellectual History at the Department of History
The research project “The Republic of Newsletters: International Republicanism in the Making of Democratic Political Cultures, 1815-1840” invites applications for two 21-month fixed-term postdoctoral position in Intellectual History with a focus on either Latin America or Greece in the time period analysed in the project.
The appointment begins on 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Place of work will be Aarhus University, Jens Chr. Skous Vej 5, 8000 Aarhus C.

The aim of the project is to understand how different conceptions of a republic and of political participation emerged in the period, and how such conceptions depended on domestic conditions as well as international connections.
The project will focus mainly, though not exclusively, on newspapers and periodicals as its source material. The project will furthermore seek to explore the perspectives of women, (formerly) enslaved people, and working-class people.
The successful applicants are expected to work closely with the project’s principal investigator, Nicolai von Eggers, and to be responsible for empirical research of one of the following two regions: (I) Gran Colombia, (II) Greece.
