The Department of Business Development and Technology (
BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for assistant professorship positions in industrial engineering.
An assistant professorship is a full-time three-year position. The starting date is 1 August 2025 or as agreed upon.
Assistant professors divide their time evenly between research and teaching activities, and the successful candidates will become part of the
EngTech research section.
Job description
At BTECH, we have a strong focus on company collaboration, which is reflected in our research and study programmes. As a researcher, we expect that you advance the research frontier through applied research. If you also have the competences to contribute to our students’ educational development and knowledge building in companies, you may be just the person we are looking for.
We expect that you have a strong research background in mechanical engineering, production engineering, or similar, and that your areas of interest are within two or more of the following disciplines:
- Manufacturing. Mechanical engineering or production automation related to physical production and production technologies.
- Relationships between product design, product development, production and recycling/decommissioning – product lifecycle management.
- Interest in complex manufacturing systems and layouts including machining, assembly, modularization, automation, stocking, and digitalization.
- Manufacturing and global supply chains, including topics such as reshoring and nearshoring.
- General considerations with respect to manufacturing such as quality, compliance, sustainability, standards, and regulation.
Candidates are expected to teach and supervise students at bachelor’s and master’s levels. Our study programmes include, among others, an
MSc in Engineering (Technology Based Business Development) as well as two Bachelor of Engineering programmes in
Forretningsudvikling (Business Development) (cyber-physical systems/product and system development) and
Global Management and Manufacturing (production and manufacturing systems). Candidates should therefore be prepared to teach courses in one or more of the following topics: Operations management, supply chain management, management of technology, and technology-based business development.
Your qualifications
Employment as assistant professor requires a PhD degree in a relevant field.
Applicants are encouraged to describe how their research is important for industry. The description could include concrete collaborations, impact, dissemination activities, etc.
Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.

The appointment is made in accordance with the
Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the
Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
