The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, calls for applications for two full-time postdoc positions. The two-year positions are planned to start by 1st January 2026, or soon thereafter. It is possible to apply for both positions or to indicate which of the two positions you apply for. The positions will be in the research unit
Behaviour, Stress and Welfare (BSW).
Your profile as postdoc for both positions
- We seek a candidate with academic qualifications at PhD level
- You must have strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and demonstrate your ability for scientific communication of research results
Position 1: Postdoc in “Risks related to animal welfare of feed additives”.
The current focus in research is feeding management to reduce climate impact from dairy cows through use of feed additives, and feed stuffs, that inhibit methane-producing microbes and fermentation. However, the potential animal welfare consequences of methane reducing feeding are under-researched, and there is a need to develop methodology that can compare various methane-reducing additives and feed stuffs for their acceptability to dairy cows and their potential welfare risks in terms of discomfort and pain.
The 2-year postdoc position will cover validation of indicators of discomfort and pain related to use of methane reducing feed additives and feed stuffs, as well as development of sensitive methodology to screen various feed-additives and feed stuffs for their acceptability to dairy cows.
The topic is animal behaviour and welfare, and we seek a candidate at PhD level with a background in e.g. biology, animal science, veterinary science, or similar, and a candidate with interest in animal behaviour and welfare in relation to initiatives to reduce climate impact of dairy production through feeding management.

Position 2: Postdoc in “Animal behaviour and welfare during critical life events”.
During recent years, the number of research initiatives focusing on animal behaviour and welfare during critical life events has increased and it seems to continue. Among these are projects focusing on animal transport and related management but also other critical aspects of the keeping of livestock. The 2-year postdoc position involves participation in interdisciplinary projects, focusing on transport of farm animals and related management.
For this position, we seek a candidate at PhD level with a background in biology, animal science or veterinary medicine who is interested in animal welfare and how society handles animals when their welfare is threatened.
