Student assistant position, Center for Humanities Computing

The Center for Humanities Computing, School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University, invites applications for a student assistant position, with an expected start date of 1 June 2026. The position is embedded in the centre’s ongoing research activities and is connected in particular to the Golden Array project cluster, which develops large-scale, multimodal representations of Danish cultural heritage data.

The student assistant will contribute to projects concerned with the organisation, enrichment, and analysis of digitised cultural heritage materials. Tasks include data curation, annotation, and archival processing, alongside exploratory analytical work on textual corpora. This may involve thematic coding, preparation of data for computational analysis, and participation in the early stages of a study of Danish sermons written during periods of national crisis.

The Golden Array project cluster seeks to model cultural-historical change by integrating extensive textual and visual datasets with advanced computational methods, including foundation models and representation learning. The work therefore unfolds in a research environment where close reading, annotation practices, and computational approaches are brought into sustained dialogue.

We are looking for applicants with a general interest in digital and computational cultural heritage research and a careful, attentive approach to working with textual data. Experience with data handling, annotation, or digital archiving is an advantage; exposure to, or curiosity about, quantitative text analysis will be considered a strength.

It is a requirement that you must be enrolled as an active student at a Danish higher education institution.

Working hours: 8 hours per week
Employment period: From 1 June 2026  until the completion of the education.
