Special Consulent for Class III facility

The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as a Special Consultant within biosafety level 3 (BSL) laboratory facilities as per 1 August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 3 years and is connected to the establishment and development of the facility as it becomes fully operational.

Your job responsibilities

As BSL3 laboratory facilities, your primary tasks are to implement and run the BSL3 facility at the Department of Biomedicine, AU. You will contribute to development of the facility to a fully approved, well-equipped, and easy-to-access-and-use facility, which is competitive at the international level. In your daily work, you have a close interaction with competent colleagues, including research group leaders, hands-on users (e.g. students and technicians), staff from other core facilities, and staff from national/international BSL3 laboratories.

Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Ensuring full approval of the BSL3 facility
  • Implementation of standard operation procedures to ensure safety for users
  • Development and maintenance of facility website
  • Implementation of new equipment
  • Development and management of access model for the BSL3 facility
  • Fundraising (together with users) for new equipment
  • Propagation and maintenance of high-titer stocks of priority pathogens
  • Ad hoc research support for specific projects
  • Teaching and supervision
  • Organization of awareness-raising and community-building events
  • Sparring
  • Administrative responsibilities

You will report to the Head of Department Thomas G. Jensen  

Your competences

You have a background within infection biology/medicine and experience with highly pathogenic microorganisms.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Terms of employment and pay are regulated by the collective agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and Academics in the State (AC).
