Research Assistant (Engineering) – Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF) SENSE: Sensory Education in Children with Multiple Impairments (Recruiting Grant, Foecker)
The Danish School of Education (DPU) at the Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University, invites applications for a research assistant position associated with the AUFF-funded research project “SENSE: Sensory Education in Children with Multiple Impairments”.
The role offers flexible working hours spread over the two-year duration of the project (approximately 7.5 hours per week) begins on 1 March 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.. The position
We are seeking a highly motivated research assistant to join a project investigating how children with special needs engage with gamified sensory activities, and how these activities influence enjoyment, perception and cognition. The project aims to advance inclusive education by developing a theoretical and empirical basis for multisensory enrichment in learning environments.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a specialised input device, applying their technical expertise to create an innovative and user-friendly tool. The research assistant will support the development, testing and refinement of technological prototypes, including Arduino-based systems, electronic circuits and multisensory devices.

- designing, building and troubleshooting Arduino-based hardware
- assisting in the development of electronic circuits and sensor systems
- supporting the testing, debugging and optimisation of prototype devices
- documenting designs, procedures and experimental results.
Applicants must hold an MSc degree or document equivalent qualifications in a relevant field related to engineering:
- experience or a strong interest in electronics and circuit board design
- willingness and enthusiasm to learn how to use new development tools (e.g. Arduino, sensors, microcontrollers)
- strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- a genuine interest in educational technology and a passion for improving the lives of children with special needs
- sensitivity, empathy and an interest in working with children with special educational needs, including those with visual impairments.
