Postdoc in therapeutic gene editing

The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of gene editing as per 15 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 30 months.

About the research project

This project is part of a new research initiative, GenesCure, funded by the Innovation Foundation Denmark. The focus of GenesCure is therapeutic development of genetic therapies based on CRISPR/Cas-based gene editing for treatment of inborn errors of disease. The project will involve basic development of CRISPR gene editing techniques but will also cover clinical translation focusing on performing editing in large clinical-scale setups. The project is carried in the research group of Professor Jacob Giehm Mikkelsen at Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University.

Your job responsibilities

As Postdoc in therapeutic gene editing your position is primarily research-based but will also involve work closely related to the clinical translation as well as teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.

Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Preclinical studies in mouse models.
  • Participation in collaborations with colleagues in the clinic including direct involvement in studies aiming a clinical translation.
  • Entering an interdisciplinary groups of researchers with the focus of implementing new types of genetic therapies.
  • Participation in meetings and scientific focus groups.
You will report to the Head of Department of Biomedicine.


Your competences

You have academic qualifications at PhD level, for example within the following areas including molecular biology and genetics, CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing, and genetic engineering. You have documented experience with CRISPR/Cas gene editing (including prime editing), design tools, handling and editing of hematopoietic stem cells, related mouse work, and a subset of genetic analyses of engineered cell populations.

As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
