Postdoc in plant microbiome interactions

The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University, Denmark, is offering a postdoctoral position for studying the influence of phytochemistry and wheat cultivar mixtures on plant-microbiome interactions, starting 15-02-2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be available for a 2-year period.

You will be working on the projects “Phytochemical recruitment of pest suppressive root microbiomes” and “The best mix – mapping cultivar mixtures in wheat and interactions with the microbiome”.

Your main tasks will be to characterize microbiomes associated with plant roots to elucidate the effects of specialized root metabolites and mixing wheat cultivars on the microbiomes and vice versa the effects of the microbiomes on plant performance and the suppression of root parasitic nematodes. You will be using metabarcoding for the analysis of microbiomes from field and greenhouse experiments, and you will integrate data on microbiome composition, nematode infestation, plant performance, plant metabolomes (targeted and untargeted) and plant transcriptomes In addition to collaborating with project partners, you will join an active and expanding community of PhD and Postdoc students in the plant-microbial ecology group at AU Flakkebjerg. We expect that you will be an important part of this research environment and that you will contribute positively to the social working environment. We also expect that you will take part in our teaching activities and that you will report research results in high-impact scientific journals.


Your profile

We are searching for a highly motivated candidate who has
  • A PhD in bioinformatics, microbial ecology, plant-microbe interactions, or similar
  • Collaborative skills and ability to participate actively in teams
  • A fondness of taking the initiative and the motivation to pursue a scientific career
  • Documented experience in scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Research experience in some of the areas of bioinformatic analyses of metabarcoding data, plant metabolomics or transcriptomics, multivariate statistical analyses or soil microbiology
Further, we will prefer candidates with some of the following qualifications:
  • Teaching and supervision experience at the BSc and MSc level
  • Interest and experience in developing competitive national and international research applications
  • Insight into interactions between plants and microorganisms
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing technologies

This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
