The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of muscle cell biology and cardiovascular research as per 1 July 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 3 years.

About the research project
The project pursues molecular mechanisms underlying the development of cardiomyopathy and heart failure. We use genetically engineered (e.g. gene knockout) and environmentally induced (e.g. high fat diet) animal models to mimic heart failure forms found in patients. Of specific interest are pathological alterations in cardiac signalling pathways, which lead to altered gene programs, and changed posttranslational modifications in cardiac substrate proteins. Another focus forms deciphering cellular effects of autocrine and/or paracrine signalling by nitric oxide, stemming either from cardiac endothelial cells or cardiomyocytes.
Your job responsibilities
As Postdoc in muscle cell biology and cardiovascular research, your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication and grant applications.
- Support of ongoing research projects in the laboratory.
- Help in the supervision of at least one PhD student or junior scientist in the lab.
- Help in the organization of the laboratory.
- Present our work at national and international meetings, conferences, or workshops.
- You may also be asked to support teaching activities.
You will report to Dr. Stephan Lange, and the Head of Department for Biomedicine.
Your competences
You have academic qualifications at PhD level, for example within the following areas insert areas. Biomedical Research, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cardiac or Skeletal Muscle Physiology and/or Bioinformatics. Expertise in cardiac and skeletal muscle physiology (e.g. echocardiography, force measurements), spatial transcriptomics and/or other NGS techniques, cell biology (isolation and culture of primary rodent and human cells, standard cell culture, immunofluorescence, calcium imaging, culture and differentiation of iPSC into cardiomyocytes) and biochemistry (standard RNA, DNA and protein analyses, proteomics, proximity ligation assays - use of BioID2 or TurboID) is advantageous. Experience with animal work (rodent models) is desirable.
As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
