Postdoc in Multiorgan Involvement in Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases - DREAM centre Aarhus

The Department of Clinical Medicine—Section of Rheumatology at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of Multiorgan Involvement in Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases with multiorgan involvement as per October 1st  2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 3 years.

The project will be part of the new DREAM (Dermatology Research Across Multiple Disciplines) Center financed by the LEO Foundation. You will be part of building this new center which bridges Aarhus University, Faculty of Health and Faculty of Natural Sciences, and Aarhus University Hospital. The overall project will leverage an existing clinical cohort, as well as develop the framework for a new cohort of patients with multiorgan autoinflammatory diseases (MAID).
 
The Department of Clinical Medicine—Section of Rheumatology has a long tradition for clinical research spanning from basic science to clinical and epidemiological studies including diverse professional backgrounds within medical science and nursing. Researchers, research positions and studies are bridging the clinical science at Department of Clinical Medicine and the basic science at Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University in close collaboration with the clinical Department of Rheumatology at Aarhus University Hospital. The Department of Rheumatology at Aarhus University Hospital has a clinical trial unit for randomised controlled trials and clinical cohort studies building clinical databases and biobanks linked to national registries.

Our research involves close collaboration with researchers and clinicians within Dermatology and Venereology, Hepatology and Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, and Physiotherapy Therapy, as well as with hospitals across the Central Denmark Region.

Within rheumatology, we have 3 professors, a clinical chair professor, a professor of immunology and a professor of health services research, 4–5 postdoctoral fellows, 7-10 PhD students, 3–5 research year students and 5–10 master students.
 

About the research project

This project will contribute to the establishment of a regional cohort of patients with multiorgan autoimmune diseases in the Central Denmark Region, providing a platform for future studies on risk factors, biomarkers, therapeutic response, and related areas. The project will form part of the foundational work for the DREAM initiative and will involve close collaboration with several research groups, including two postdoctoral researchers and multiple students based at the Departments of Biomedicine and Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University.
 

Your job responsibilities

This position is one of three postdoctoral positions in the DREAM Center at Aarhus University, a LEO Foundation funded clinical interdisciplinary research center bridging Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital and spanning the departments of Clinical Medicine, Biomedicine, and Molecular Biology & Genetics at AU, and the departments of Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, AUH.  As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the DREAM Centre at the Department of Clinical Medicine—Section of Rheumatology, your position will be primarily research-focused, with the possibility of contributing to teaching activities. You will play a key role in advancing the DREAM Centre for Systems Medicine through high-quality research at an international level, as well as through innovative collaboration across departments and institutions. In your day-to-day work, you will engage closely with colleagues from affiliated departments and partner institutions spanning the departments of Clinical Medicine, Biomedicine, and Molecular Biology & Genetics at AU, and the departments of Dermatology, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, AUH.

You will synergize with the other two postdoctoral fellows in the interdisciplinary framework of the DREAM Center, which additionally hosts a number of MSc, PhD and Research Year students at the involved partner departments. You will participate in biweekly DREAM meetings, a regular journal club, and an annual DREAM symposium.

Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Independent high-quality research at an international level, including publication.
  • You will contribute to the development of a new cross-institutional research center
  • You will take part in supervision of master students and research year students
  • You will take part in center meetings and evaluation meetings of DREAM
  • Developing DREAM into a Internationally recognized Research Center

You will report to Clinical Chair Professor Ellen-Margrethe Hauge, who will be primary investigator.
 

Your competences

You hold academic qualifications at the PhD level in clinical or clinical epidemiological research. Prior experience in clinical musculoskeletal assessment, inflammatory diseases, the use of registry data, and clinical rheumatology will be considered an advantage.

You possess strong interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented, and contribute positively to a collaborative work environment. Proficiency in both spoken and written English is expected.

In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Obtaining a child certificate is a prerequisite for employment in the position.
