The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of gene editing as per 1 October 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 24 months.
Department of Biomedicine
The Department of Biomedicine provides the foundation for groundbreaking research through a strong focus on academic excellence, diversity, and a healthy work environment. In an international and diverse research setting, dedicated researchers and staff work to generate new knowledge within key biomedical fields such as infection and inflammation, membrane biology, neuroscience, and personalized medicine. The department values interdisciplinary collaboration and offers an inspiring workplace where both scientific curiosity and a sense of community are encouraged to grow. The Department of Biomedicine delivers research-based teaching of the highest quality and is responsible for a significant portion of the medical degree programme. Approximately 500 employees from around the world are employed at the department, which houses modern laboratory, core, and animal facility infrastructures. English is the preferred language in the laboratory, in meetings, and at seminars. The Department of Biomedicine also emphasizes innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with industry. About the research project
In this project, we will investigate new strategies for carrying out therapeutic gene editing in hematopoietic stem cells. Next-generation therapies may not rely on
ex vivo handling of cell products but rather facilitate the correction of stem cells directly in the bone marrow. Based on novel CRISPR-based gene editing technology, the goal is to study treatment hematologic dysfunction using virus-based vehicles for delivery of genome editing tool kits. The project is carried in the research group of Professor Jacob Giehm Mikkelsen at Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University.
Your job responsibilities
As Postdoc in gene editing your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
- Applying virus-based delivery methods, including lentivirus-derived nanoparticles, for delivery to hematopoietic stem cells.
- Studies of gene and protein delivery in mouse models of hematologic dysfunction.
- Participation in meetings and scientific focus groups.
You will report to the Head of Department of Biomedicine.
Your competences
You have academic qualifications at PhD level, for example within the following areas including CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing, various delivery technologies, stem cell handling and biology, and genetic engineering. You have documented experience with CRISPR/Cas gene editing, handling and editing of hematopoietic stem cells, mouse work, and various genetic analyses of genetically modified cell populations.
As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet
these academic criteria.
