Student Data Scientist at Center for Humanities Computing

Center for Humanities Computing (CHC) has openings for student data scientists to work on and support ongoing research projects. CHC is an interdisciplinary research and development unit at Aarhus University that collaborates with researchers from diverse fields, including arts and humanities.

We view equality and diversity as assets, and we welcome all applicants — you don't need to tick every box to apply. We value candidates who are eager to learn and grow, and we'll support you in doing so.

What you'll do

As a student data scientist, you'll be part of a collaborative team working on research projects. Your work spans both the technical — writing clean code, building data pipelines, designing analyses — and the communicative: asking good questions and working closely with researchers to understand what they actually need.

The position is 8 hours per week, with flexibility around exam periods. You're also warmly invited to join CHC's social life: we have regular Friday bars, bi-weekly talks, and a collaborative team culture where curiosity is genuinely valued.

The employment will commence April 7, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, and ends after one year.

What we're looking for

We value a mix of technical and collaborative skills. You might have some or all of the following:
  • Strong communication skills — you can articulate ideas clearly and work with others to define problems
  • A curious mindset and willingness to ask questions
  • Programming experience, e.g., in Python or bash
  • Comfortable with working in a terminal and Linux-based environments (e.g. UCloud)
  • Familiarity with version control, such as Git, and an interest in collaborative or open source development
  • Experience with AI, machine learning, computational linguistics, or computer vision (e.g. PyTorch)
